Transport Ministry calls for compliance with airfare caps

HCMC – Responding to the scarcity of domestic air tickets, the Ministry of Transport has told the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) to ensure a stable supply of air services and compliance with ceiling air ticket prices.

The Ministry of Transport cited recent airline restructuring and the grounding of several aircraft for PW1100 engine inspections, which have impacted domestic and international services.

To mitigate the negative effects of reduced flights, CAAV has been tasked with directing airlines to promptly add more aircraft to ensure a stable air service supply during the holidays on April 30 (Reunification Day) and May 1 (International Labor Day), as well as the peak summer season.

Airlines are also required to take measures to reduce flight delays and cancellations, enhance service quality, and fulfill their obligations.

In accordance with the ministry’s directive, CAAV is expected to assist airlines in increasing operational capacity to meet the travel demands of local residents, while also intensifying inspections of passenger transportation, air ticket sales, price listing, and publication of air ticket prices.

These measures are aimed at preventing the illegal inflation of air ticket prices, ultimately safeguarding the legitimate rights of passengers, stated the ministry.

As of early 2023, local air carriers operated more than 220 aircraft, but this number has since dropped to 170.
