HCMC – Gemadept and French shipping group CMA CGM have broken ground on the second phase of the Gemalink deep-water port in the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port cluster, HCMC.

With a total investment of about VND6 trillion, the project’s phase two is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.

Across both phases, the project spans 54.4 hectares with total investment exceeding VND13.7 trillion. The combined berth length of Gemalink Port will be expanded to more than 1.4 kilometers.

Once completed, the port’s total capacity will increase to more than three million TEU per year, enough to meet strong cargo growth demand and accommodate the world’s largest container vessels currently in service, with deadweight tonnage of up to 250,000 tons, equivalent to 24,000 TEUs.

Located in the core zone of HCMC’s planned free trade zone at Cai Mep Ha, the port links manufacturing, services and logistics, and is expected to support double digit economic growth targets for HCMC and Vietnam as a whole.

The project is also expected to elevate Vietnam’s port operations and logistics brand globally, while helping HCMC move closer to becoming an international maritime financial center.
