HCMC – The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau has proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade add the Khanh Tien and Ca Mau 3 power projects in the province to the national electricity development plan.
The Khanh Tien wind power project is being developed by the 78 Construction Consultant Company and Alin 2 Hydropower JSC on 9,290 hectares in Khanh Tien Commune, U Minh District. The average wind speed in this region is 6.3 meters per second.
The project has four phases, with a combined capacity of 402.8MW and an investment of VND16 trillion, which are scheduled for operation between the second quarter of 2022 and the fourth quarter of 2023.
To ensure the project’s efficiency, the provincial government has asked the investors to carefully review options for the position of wind turbines and the distance between them. The investors also have to ensure the project will not affect the local residents’ livelihoods, sea transport and fishing activities. There must also be sufficient signal lights at the project site to ensure safety for ships and locals.
Meanwhile, the Ca Mau 3 power plant, which costs some VND35 trillion, is being developed by the PetroVietnam Power Corporation. Scheduled for operation in 2026 or 2027, the project is expected to consume 1.2 million tons of liquefied natural gas per year and turn out nine billion kWh per year.
The project will help ensure sufficient power supply for the southern region, contribute to the country’s power development, create jobs for the local people and contribute to the socioeconomic development of Ca Mau Province and the surrounding regions.
