Dinh Tien Dung resigns from National Assembly

Must read

HCMC – The National Assembly (NA) voted on June 25 to accept the resignation of Dinh Tien Dung, former Politburo member and former Hanoi City Party Committee secretary, from his post as a lawmaker.

The decision came after 440 out of 445 deputies present at the ongoing sitting of the NA voted and passed a resolution approving his resignation.

The move follows a June 21 meeting where the Central Committee of the Communist Party agreed to relieve Dinh Tien Dung of his membership of the Politburo and the Central Committee of the Communist Party in the current 13th term. The committee cited violations during his term as minister of finance from 2016 to 2021.

The Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission said Dung breached regulations on party member conduct and leadership responsibilities. He was accused of failing to perform adequate supervision, leading to serious violations by the Ministry of Finance, and several organizations and individuals. These issues reportedly damaged the reputation of the Party and the Government.

Dung submitted a request to resign and retire, acknowledging his responsibility for the infractions. The Politburo on June 19 also approved his departure from various roles within the Hanoi Party Committee.

The ministry did not perform its advisory role correctly in the 2016 to 2021 term, particularly in overseeing privately placed corporate bond issues and transactions. Irregularities were also found in state budget management involving the Advanced International JSC and its affiliates.

As minister of finance, Dung was held politically responsible for these violations. His leadership was deemed inadequate, leading to significant infractions and negative public perception.
