HCMC – Developing a stable, sustainable, and long-term relationship with China is a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice and a top priority of Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said during his meeting with Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.

PM Chinh came to Beijing today, June 26, and met with President Xi there as part of his working trip to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Dalian, China.

The Vietnamese Government leader reaffirmed Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification of external ties.

Vietnam supports China’s development goals, including achieving its “second centenary” and building socialism with Chinese characteristics, he added.

President Xi said that China highly values and considers the relationship with Vietnam a priority in its overall neighbourhood diplomacy policy, and that China supports Vietnam in safeguarding its national independence and dignity.

The two leaders expressed their delight at the positive development of Vietnam-China relations in recent times, and agreed to continue concretizing high-level understandings, especially the Vietnam-China Joint Statement on further deepening and elevating the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and to build a Vietnam-China community with a shared future.

PM Chinh proposed that both sides cooperate in large-scale projects, and expedite the connectivity of transportation infrastructure, especially in railways, roads and border gates.

He suggested that China facilitate Vietnam’s exportation of products such as durian, fresh coconut and rice, and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to reach Central Asia and Europe through China.

Appreciating Chinh’s cooperation proposals, President Xi affirmed that China supports Vietnam in accelerating the industrialization and modernization of the country. He emphasized that China is committed to building stable and sustainable supply and production chains in the region and globally, alongside Vietnam and other countries.

He added that China backs businesses to increase investments in Vietnam, especially in hi-tech and emerging industries.
