HCMC – The Government’s target of getting 130,000 social homes built nationwide this year to meet the huge demand of low-income people and factory workers is proving to be difficult to achieve.
At the mid-year review conference held on July 10, the Ministry of Construction reported that since 2021, a total of 503 social housing projects have been carried out nationwide, with a combined 418,200 units.
However, only 75 projects with nearly 39,900 units have been completed so far, while 128 projects comprising 15,400 units have begun construction. Investment approval has been granted for 300 projects, with around 262,900 units.
Based on data from the ministry, it is clear that the target of completing 130,000 social housing units this year is still far from being achieved.
To address this, the ministry will work with localities to accelerate the national plan to “build one million social homes for low-income people and factory workers in the 2021-2030 period.”
It will continue to work with the prime minister’s working group to review, urge and guide the resolution of difficulties and obstacles in implementing real estate projects for localities and businesses.
The Ministry of Construction will also proactively propose solutions to resolve difficulties, balance supply and demand, restructure real estate market products, and increase housing supply, especially social housing and housing for individuals with moderate and low incomes.
According to the Housing and Real Estate Market Management Agency of the Ministry of Construction, many localities have effectively allocated land for social housing.
Over 10,000 hectares of land have been planned for social housing nationwide, an increase of 6,641 hectares compared to data in 2020. Notable examples include Dong Nai Province with 1,064 hectares allocated, HCMC with 609 hectares, Quang Ninh Province with 704 hectares, and Haiphong City with 837 hectares.
