HCMC – South Korea’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), Park Sang Woo, expressed interest in collaborating with Vietnam in the infrastructure sector, including high-speed railways, during a recent meeting with Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Xuan Sang.
Minister Park praised Vietnam’s rapid development and expressed South Korea’s interest in stronger cooperation in transportation with Vietnam.
To formalize future collaboration, the Ministry of Transport and South Korea’s MOLIT signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on transportation infrastructure, particularly express railways.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport needs South Korea to share expertise in the development and operation of urban railways and expressways, and to support Vietnam in technology transfer and management of high-speed railway systems, thereby enhancing Vietnam’s railway industry.
Minister Park proposed that both countries consider expanding the MOU to encompass specific sectors such as railways, roads, aviation, and maritime transport in the near future.
South Korea, following Japan, is one of the leading countries in Asia in developing high-speed railways. It also serves as a model for technology transfer and localizing industry to support high-speed railway development.
