HCMC – HCMC plans to invest over VND19 trillion to upgrade Rung Sac road to 10 lanes to improve connectivity with Can Gio Commune.
The municipal People’s Committee has approved a proposal to assign Can Gio Tourism Urban JSC to prepare a pre-feasibility study for the project under a public-private partnership (PPP) through a build-transfer (BT) contract.
Rung Sac road is the main route linking the city center with Can Gio, which has emerged as an attractive area for investors.
The project is divided into two sections. The first covers a nearly two-kilometer 15B link from the end of D1 Street in Tan My Ward to the boundary of the planned Can Gio Bridge project in Nha Be Commune. The section is designed with six lanes, including four for motor vehicles and two parallel lanes.
The second involves upgrading and expanding more than 35 kilometers of Rung Sac road from the Ben Luc–Long Thanh Expressway interchange to the main axis of the Can Gio coastal urban tourism area. The road will be widened from six lanes to 10 lanes, including eight motor vehicle lanes and two parallel lanes.
Authorities have also instructed relevant units to halt preparation work on several related projects, including Phu Xuan 2B Bridge, the 15B section connecting Can Gio Bridge to Phu Xuan 2B Bridge, and phase two bridge projects along Rung Sac road.
The investor has 12 months to complete and submit the pre-feasibility report. If the proposal is not approved or exceeds the deadline, the approval will expire, and the company will bear all costs and risks.
The city has identified the project as a key infrastructure priority through next year to meet rising demand from tourism and population growth in Can Gio.
