HCMC – Dutch semiconductor company BESI is set to invest an additional US$42 million to expand its factory in Saigon Hi-Tech Park in HCMC, focusing on equipment for chip packaging and testing.
On July 18, the HCMC People’s Committee asked relevant departments and agencies to process BESI’s application for project expansion.
Previously, the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) Authority has sought municipal approval for BESI’s expansion plans.
The initial project, which was registered with the SHTP Authority on October 3, 2023, had nearly US$5 million in investments for manufacturing equipment related to microchip packaging and testing.
Phase 1 of the project, originally slated to commence operations in the fourth quarter of this year, was expedited, with the factory opening on February 28, 2024.
Following this, BESI has applied for approval to proceed with Phase 2 of the expansion, which will require an investment of US$42 million. This phase includes the construction of a new factory spanning approximately 2 hectares, with work scheduled to begin in June 2025.
