Must read

HCMC – Twin girls conjoined at the lower abdomen and pelvic areas had been separated as of 2:07 p.m today, July 15 at the HCMC Children’s Hospital.

They were transferred to two separate rooms for further medical procedures after the separation surgery, according to the hospital’s representative.

Some 100 doctors and nurses in Vietnam joined the surgery being conducted to separate the conjoined twins early this morning at the HCMC Children’s Hospital.

The baby girls—Truc Nhi and Dieu Nhi—were taken to the hospital’s Department of Surgery at some 5:45 a.m. in the day. Each of them is expected to lose some 250-500ml of blood during the operation scheduled to last 12 hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The separation surgery was led by Dr. Truong Quang Dinh, director of the hospital, and attended by 93 other healthcare workers who were divided into 11 groups to take charge of specific tasks, including anesthetizing, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, recovery and prevention of bacterial infections.

To ensure the safety of the twin girls, the hospital has been cleaning and and disinfecting the operating theater with UV light every day for a month.

The baby girls were delivered via a cesarean section in mid-2019 at the HCMC-based Hung Vuong Hospital. They were then transferred to the HCMC Children’s Hospital for further medical observation and special treatment.

The doctors held numerous consultations to arrive at a decision to perform this surgery, said the hospital director.
