HCMC – A tropical depression, which is expected to intensify into a storm, might make landfall in Vietnam’s central coast tomorrow (September 19), according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
As of 7 a.m. today, September 18, the depression was spotted 220 kilometers east of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands, with winds reaching level 7 (50-61 kilometers per hour) and gusts up to level 9.
It is projected to approach the coast of Quang Tri Province by 7 a.m. on September 19, with its eye 210 kilometers southeast of Quang Tri and 120 kilometers east of Danang City. Winds are expected to strengthen to level 8, with gusts at level 10.
As it moves inland, the storm would weaken into a tropical depression over the Vietnam-Laos border by September 20, with winds decreasing to level 6 and gusts to level 8.
Coastal provinces from Nghe An to Quang Ngai, including islands, are likely to experience strong winds and high waves.
Authorities have warned of potential coastal erosion and flooding in low-lying areas due to storm surges and large waves.
