HCMC – A recent seminar in HCMC highlighted the potential transformation of Khanh Hoi Port in District 4 into a sustainable and climate-resilient development zone, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The September 19 event focused on strategies for revitalizing the port. Organized by the University of Economics HCMC (UEH), the French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME), and Terao Asia (Singapore), the seminar brought together experts to discuss future plans for the port.
Experts emphasized the port’s potential to become a hub for culture, commerce and green public spaces. Proposals included modernizing infrastructure to accommodate increasing international cruise ship traffic and enhancing water transport connectivity within the city.
The revitalization of Khanh Hoi Port aligns with HCMC’s broader development goals, focusing on environmental sustainability, commerce, tourism, and port infrastructure. The project is part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the HCMC Department of Planning and Architecture and ADEME.
Emmanuelle Pavillon-Grosser, French consul general in HCMC, reiterated the French government’s commitment to supporting the project, given France’s historical involvement in constructing the old Saigon Port.
She said France would provide technical and financial support to help the city achieve its goals for Khanh Hoi Port.
A feasibility study involving leading French green technology companies will evaluate the technical and financial aspects of the project.
