HCMC – Vietnam and China signed 10 cooperation agreements today, October 13, during Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s three-day visit to Hanoi, as the two nations seek to boost ties.
The signing ceremony followed Li’s talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the Government Office in Hanoi, focusing on infrastructure and economic collaboration, including railway connectivity and cross-border QR code payments.
A key agreement involves the connection of railways between Lao Cai station in Vietnam and Hekou North railway station in the southern Chinese province of Yunnan. The two countries will also conduct feasibility studies for upgrading major rail routes, including Dong Dang–Hanoi and Mong Cai–Halong–Haiphong.
Another agreement focuses on cooperation in maintaining the Vietnam-China Friendship Palace and enhancing human resource development under the Global Development Initiative framework.
Vietnam and China also signed agreements to strengthen sustainable agricultural supply chains and study a model for a cross-border economic cooperation zone. Additionally, both countries’ customs authorities reached an agreement to recognize each other’s trusted business programs.
Other MOUs include cross-border payment services between Vietnam’s National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) and China’s UnionPay via QR codes and collaborations between media agencies and universities.
