HCMC – Vietnam is on high alert over a tropical depression forming in the East Sea and the approaching typhoon Yinxing, the nation’s seventh this year.

According to the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, as of 4 a.m. on November 9, Yinxing was spotted about 480 kilometers east-northeast of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands.

The storm is packing winds up to 166 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 170 kilometers per hour. Though Yinxing is forecast to weaken as it heads to the Vietnamese coast, it could dump heavy rain and bring strong winds in coastal provinces.

Meanwhile, a new tropical depression has developed east of the Philippines, and might strengthen into a typhoon and enter the East Sea by November 12.
