HCMC – Nutifood has announced the selection of a Japanese consortium consisting of Chodai & Kiso-Jiban Vietnam, Chodai, and Niwa Architects (CKJVN-Chodai-Niwa) as the design contractor for its pedestrian bridge project spanning across the Saigon River.

This consortium had previously won the design competition for the bridge’s architectural concept.

The project’s design, inspired by the shape of a nipa palm leaf, presents complex engineering challenges, according to a statement by Nutifood.

“The bridge requires highly skilled engineers to ensure both aesthetic appeal and safety,” said Nguyen Huu Hoang, deputy general director of Nutifood.

Nutifood selected the CKJVN-Chodai-Niwa consortium, the original architects of the design concept as they possess expertise to translate the vision for this bridge into reality, he added.

The consortium will be responsible for conducting surveys, preparing detailed design drawings, and creating a building information model (BIM).

Wind tunnel tests in Europe or the U.S. will also be conducted to ensure the bridge’s structural integrity in high-wind conditions.

On December 4 last year, the HCMC People’s Committee signed an agreement to accept more than VND1 trillion from Nutifood to build the pedestrian bridge over the Saigon River, connecting the central business district and Thu Thiem Peninsula which is planned to become a new modern urban area of HCMC.

Nutifood plans to break ground on the project on April 30, 2025.
