Must read

CAN THO – On the morning of August 1, some 300 students, entrepreneurs, officials and residents in Duong Dong Town in the island district of Phu Quoc will cycle to various famous tourist destinations and discover the beauty of the Pearl Island, aimed at stimulating domestic tourism and solidifying the position of the island as one of Vietnam’s must-visit tourist attractions.

The program will also play a role in protecting the environment and preserving heritage sites and landscapes.

Organized by The Saigon Times Group, the program, themed “Bike Ride For A Green Phu Quoc”, is set to kick off in Phu Quoc District in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang on August 1, with the participation of representatives of the Phu Quoc authorities, enterprises and locals, held as part of the “Saigon Times-Great Circle-Together with Vietnam’s Tourism” program initiated by the group.

The bike trip is set to start from Bach Dang Park, pass through the center of Duong Dong Town, Phu Quoc Night Market and Cau Temple and end at the park.

The “Bike Ride For A Green Phu Quoc” program will also feature a cleanup campaign at the beach near Cau Temple and at Bach Dang Park, which is scheduled to take place after the cycling, aimed at calling on residents and tourists to protect the environment and preserve tourist sites.

The program, sponsored by Nam A Bank and Sea Star Resort Phu Quoc, will be attended by Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 Nguyen Tran Khanh Van.

At the event, The Saigon Times Group will also introduce the “Heritage and You” photo festival to the participants, calling on them to send photos of Vietnam’s landscapes and heritage sites, especially of Phu Quoc, to noivongtaylon@thesaigontimes.vn. The 30 selected photos will be displayed at an exhibition in Hue City on August 15 and 16.

Mai Van Huynh, chairman of Phu Quoc District, told The Saigon Times Online on July 22 that the district is supporting the program, as it will contribute to stimulating tourism after the coronavirus pandemic is successfully contained in Vietnam.

Huynh also said that several representatives of the district’s authorities will join the program.

Following the success of the first phase of the “Saigon Times-Great Circle” program aimed at helping poverty-stricken people overcome the hardships caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the group launched the second phase of the program titled “Together with Vietnam’s Tourism”.

The second phase started with a beach cleanup campaign on Ke Ga Islet in Binh Thuan Province on June 14. Besides this, the Saigon Times Group teamed up with the Dak Nong Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the management board of Ta Dung National Park to organize a trek at the park on June 27 and 28.

On July 9, an environmental cleanup event was launched in the central province of Quang Nam as part of the “Saigon Times-Great Circle-Together with Vietnam’s Tourism” program.

The program will continue in Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Danang, Thua Thien-Hue and Ha Giang until late August.
