HCMC – HCMC’s first metro line, connecting Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien stations, welcomed nearly 279,000 passengers in its first three days of operation, far exceeding the initial target of 105,000 passengers.
On its debut day, December 22, the metro served about 150,000 passengers, followed by over 38,000 on December 23 and more than 90,000 on December 24.
According to the HCMC Urban Railways No. 1 Company (HURC), interest in the metro surged, particularly at Ben Thanh Station, as passengers sought to explore the new transport system.
The company increased the number of trips and extended operating hours to meet the high demand during the Christmas holiday.
On December 24, nine metro trains operated 220 trips from 5 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., serving over 90,000 passengers. This figure translates to an average of 411 passengers per train, significantly surpassing the original plan of 200 daily trips with an estimated capacity of 39,000 passengers.
