HCMC – The Mekong Delta province of Tay Ninh is developing a strategy to build a comprehensive unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ecosystem over the next decade, aiming to become a regional center for UAV research and applications in southeastern Vietnam.

The initiative is part of the province’s science, technology and innovation development strategy for 2026-2030, with a vision to 2035, which identifies UAVs as one of nine priority technology groups.

To implement the strategy, Tay Ninh plans to adopt a business-centered approach, fostering collaboration among research institutes, educational institutions, and technology companies to accelerate the commercialization of UAV products for practical applications.

On the infrastructure front, the provincial Department of Science and Technology is working with experts to develop a UAV technology complex. The project includes the establishment of dedicated flight-testing corridors that meet aviation safety requirements, as well as the introduction of special mechanisms and policies, including regulatory sandbox programs, to attract investment.

The province expects the development of a UAV ecosystem to create new drivers of socioeconomic growth and strengthen its competitiveness.

To support the initiative, Tay Ninh has expanded cooperation with strategic partners. These include the Vietnam National University-HCMC in training and technology transfer, Real-Time Robotics in developing a UAV technology complex project, and CT Group in a proposed 400-hectare UAV technology complex integrated with an international services ecosystem.

The project backed by CT Group is expected to require around US$2 billion in investment.

In addition, the provincial government has assigned the Department of Science and Technology to serve as a focal point for connecting technology supply and demand. The agency will also organize investment promotion activities and industry workshops to strengthen links between government bodies and domestic and international partners, helping foster innovation and accelerate the development of the local technology ecosystem.
