The I.D.I International Development & Investment Corporation (IDI) has started work on its third seafood processing plant in Dong Thap Province. The facility, valued at nearly VND700 billion, got off the ground on January 7, 2025.
The plant is being constructed on nearly 24,000 square meters in the Sao Mai-Vam Cong Industrial Park. It has a daily capacity of 120 tons of raw materials with an expected annual output of nearly 20,000 tonnes of frozen fillet fish. Equipped with fully imported European machinery, the facility will feature an automated feeding system and advanced freezing technology.
Construction is slated to take 12 to 14 months. Upon completion, the U.S. Seafood Processing Plant will boost IDI’s total processing capacity to over 500 tons of raw materials per day.
Currently, Dong Thap is home to 28 seafood processing companies with a combined design capacity exceeding 500,000 tons per year. These companies primarily produce frozen tra fish (pangasius) fillets for export, contributing nearly 40% of the country’s export value in this sector. The industry provides jobs for over 25,000 workers.
IDI is a leading player among these businesses, playing a crucial role in the province’s tra fish production chain. Notably, in late October 2024, IDI successfully issued the first batch of green bonds worth VND1,000 billion in Asia.
Through its use of green financing for the construction of the U.S. Seafood Processing Plant, IDI highlights the ambitious drive of Vietnam’s leading seafood processing company to take the lead in the “Green Journey – Green Values” initiative. This effort aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s call to transition tra fish production in Vietnam toward sustainable development in the new phase.
IDI has taken advantage of the green transition trend at an opportune moment, leveraging the company’s capabilities as Vietnam’s seafood export market receives a steady stream of positive news from the U.S., China, the Middle East, and ASEAN.
Especially, the U.S. and South American markets are gaining appeal, as in 2024, six Vietnamese seafood companies, including IDI, were awarded lower anti-dumping duties (POR19) following the final results announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC). This favorable tariff policy is creating significant export opportunities for IDI in the U.S. seafood market.
In July 2024, IDI successfully signed a strategic partnership agreement to develop the U.S. and South American markets with PATAGONIA CUISINE LLC, based in Atlanta, Georgia. The two companies agreed to collaboratively build the “IDI” brand in the U.S., reinforcing the foundation for a sustainable growth journey.
For several years in a row, IDI has consistently ranked among the leading seafood processing and export companies in Vietnam. The quality of its products and solid reputation have built IDI’s renowned brand, with its products now available in 50 countries and territories worldwide. The company continually refines its modern management processes, enhances product quality, implements advanced and clean production technologies, ensures absolute food safety, reduces costs, and boosts competitiveness. IDI is committed to meeting and exceeding the profit goals set at the 2024 annual shareholders’ meeting, reinforcing its position as a pioneer in the industry.
