HCMC – As many as 18 babies, two to six months old, in Hanoi’s Quoc Oai District were wrongly administered the Pfizer vaccine, when they should have been vaccinated against other diseases, according to the municipal Department of Health.
The incident took place at the medical station of Yen Son Commune on November 3, the local media reported.
The cause of the error and the Pfizer vaccine volume that the babies received remain unknown.
These babies were later taken to the Xanh Pon Hospital. Leading experts from the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital have come to the Xanh Pon Hospital to examine the babies.
At present, their health is stable. Some have developed symptoms of fever and inflammation at the injection site, but no one has reported anaphylaxis.
The Hanoi Department of Health has reported the case to the Ministry of Health and consulted with leading domestic professors and experts from the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
The department also required reviewing the vaccination process in the city to prevent similar incidents.
Quoc Oai District has asked the district’s medical center and the Yen Son medical station to suspend a four-member vaccination team involved in the incident and review the vaccination process for children.
Hanoi has yet to begin vaccination for children, while the national Covid-19 vaccination drive for children was launched on November 1 to vaccinate children aged between 12 and 17 against Covid-19. Until the first quarter of next year, all children aged between 12 and 17 are expected to get Covid-19 vaccines.
