HCMC – Authorities in Binh Phuoc Province broke ground today (April 29) on the first component of the Gia Nghia–Chon Thanh Expressway as part of the western North-South Expressway.

The component involves the construction of the main expressway route under the public-private partnership (PPP) and is considered the most critical phase.

An estimated VND20 trillion will be needed for this component, which has a total length of over 124 kilometers, with 23.1 kilometers in Dak Nong Province and 101 kilometers in Binh Phuoc.

Designed with six lanes and a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour, the expressway is scheduled for completion by 2027.

According to the prime minister’s decision, the Binh Phuoc People’s Committee has been assigned as the project’s governing authority and is responsible for signing the investment contract. The province’s construction and investment project management unit will oversee the bidding process.

The proposed investors include a consortium of Vingroup and Techcombank. Under special provisions, Binh Phuoc authorities are permitted to award a construction contract to the investors.

According to the Binh Phuoc People’s Committee, the expressway holds strategic importance for not only Binh Phuoc and Dak Nong but also the broader Central Highlands and southeastern regions. Once completed, the road is expected to improve connectivity with HCMC, reduce travel time, lower logistics costs, boost trade and investment, and enhance defense and security.
