HCMC – France is seeking to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam across all areas, particularly in strategic fields, French President Emmanuel Macron said during his meeting with Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam.
On May 26, Party General Secretary To Lam met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the headquarters of the Communist Party of Vietnam in Hanoi City.
Speaking at the meeting, Lam highlighted the significance of Macron s state visit to Vietnam, affirming both sides’ strong commitment to implementing concrete outcomes of the comprehensive strategic partnership. He stressed that Vietnam values and wishes to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with France.
For his part, President Macron affirmed that Vietnam holds an important role and position in France’s Indo-Pacific policy. He emphasized the unique nature of Vietnam-France relations, which have evolved through various historical stages and are now built on a foundation of strong trust and mutual respect.
Macron also noted that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and France stands out as a bright spot amid the rapidly changing and complex global landscape.
He said that France always seeks to enhance cooperation with Vietnam across all areas, particularly in strategic fields such as economy and trade, security and defense, science and technology, culture, education, and healthcare—aligned with the scope and nature of the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Vietnam and France agreed to prioritize cooperation in key areas such as politics and diplomacy, defense and security (including cybersecurity), economic and trade ties, investment, maritime economy, development cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides committed to advancing collaboration in energy transition, with France supporting Vietnam under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
They also agreed to expand cooperation in nuclear energy, particularly in training human resources and applying atomic energy for peaceful purposes, including in healthcare.
Party General Secretary To Lam called on France to work with Vietnam to make science and technology a new pillar of bilateral cooperation in the current era. He also urged France to support Vietnam in strategic fields such as aerospace, biotechnology, digital technology, semiconductors, quantum technology, digital economy, and the training of high-quality human resources.
