Southern localities in particular and Vietnam in general over the past few months have grappled with the rapid spread of the Delta variant, with new infections and fatalities soaring sharply and overwhelming the health system. During this hard time, the shortfall of medical supplies has made the fight against Covid-19 more challenging.
With its message “Sending love – Joining hands in the fight against Covid-19” and its desire to share the pandemic-induced burden with local hospitals, frontline healthcare workers, and patients, Yuanta Securities Vietnam Ltd., Co. (YSVN) this August donated medical equipment to local frontline hospitals, with total value of over VND1 billion.
In HCMC, where the fourth coronavirus wave has taken a heavy toll, a lot of Covid field hospitals were set up and quickly overloaded by an upsurge in locally-infected cases.
Vo Hong Dong from the HCMC-based Eastern Military-Civilian Hospital said the hospital had been transformed into a Covid treatment facility for elderly patients who have underlying medical problems, and in critical conditions. Therefore, the hospital at that time was in dire need of ventilators and personal protective equipment among others. Treating a Covid patient requires more medical equipment than normal and constant care from medical workers.
Similarly, the neighboring province of Binh Duong, deemed as an industrial hub in the country, also became one of the major coronavirus hotspots in the latest outbreak. The complicated development of Covid-19 left local hospitals and medical facilities overstretched and always in the state of tension and the shortage of personal protective equipment.
Many hospitals in other localities reportedly also faced the shortage of medical supplies to serve the Covid fight.
To share difficulties linked to the medical supply shortfall, YSVN representatives then presented patient monitors, face shields, N95 face masks, and personal protective equipment to local hospitals and medical facilities including the Eastern Military Civilian Hospital in HCMC, the Vung Tau Hospital in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, the Dong Nai General Hospital in Dong Nai Province, the Center for Disease Control in Binh Duong Province, and the Hoa Vang Medical Center and the Danang Lung Hospital in Danang.
Vo Thi Thu Thuy, director of YSVN’s Binh Duong Branch, said: “I’m really honored to represent YSVN to donate 112 cartons of medical gloves to aid the Covid fight in Binh Duong. This shows the care of the YSVN management board for not only YSVN employees but also the local community.”
As shared by Vo Dinh Tuan, director of the company’s Danang Branch, after being informed of Taiwan-based Yuanta Group’s plan on offering medical supplies to frontline hospitals in Vietnam and receiving the fund from the group, Tuan and nearly 100 employees of YSVN in Danang rushed to search for medical equipment suppliers, purchased and transported the equipment to local hospitals at the earliest.
In addition to its donation of medical equipment, the securities firm in the same month presented 200 gifts being food necessities to local people and the competent forces that stood guard at Covid-19 checkpoints in HCMC’s districts 4 and 8. Earlier, the brokerage also donated VND200 million to the Government’s Covid-19 vaccine fund.
“We believe that every single action would help contribute to the dual goal of slowing down the spread of the coronavirus and flattening the Covid-19 curve. Accordingly, YSVN has been and will be continuing to launch a host of activities to support its employees, customers, and frontline medical workers nationwide in the Covid fight,” a YSVN representative shared.
Apart from its acts of kindness in the Covid outbreak, when Central Vietnam was being battered by the historic flooding in late 2020, YSVN and its Labor Union introduced the program entitled “Huong ve khuc ruot mien Trung” (Our hearts to Central Vietnam) to its customers and employees.
The YSVN Labor Union coordinated with the Yuanta Danang Office to donate nearly VND500 million to help local residents in the communes of Huong Lap and Huong Viet in Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri Province soon overcome obstacles caused by the extreme weather conditions and return to their normal life. Of the donation fund, YSVN employees contributed over VND229 million and VND100 million was backed by YSVN customers and business partners.
