HCMC – Sun PhuQuoc Airways, a subsidiary of Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group, has been granted an air transport license by the Ministry of Construction.
With total registered capital of VND2.5 trillion, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will operate under a hybrid model combining traditional regular flights and charter services, offering full-service amenities, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The airline will be based on Phu Quoc Island, off the West coast of the Mekong Delta, with planned routes connecting to Hanoi, HCMC, Danang, and other major cities.
For international services, Sun PhuQuoc Airways aims to connect Phu Quoc with major cities and tourist hotspots across Asia, including Japan, South Korea, China, and other emerging markets.
The airline also plans to expand its flight network to untapped high-potential tourism markets that currently lack direct air connections such as Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Australia.
In its initial phase, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will operate narrow-body Airbus aircraft, including the A320, A321, and A321neo. The airline is also in negotiations with Boeing for future fleet expansion.
If everything goes as planned, the airline expects to begin ticket sales by late October and launch its first commercial flight shortly thereafter.
