HCMC – A list of 40 investment-seeking projects has been approved in Kien Giang Province, including several billion-dollar urban developments planned to serve the APEC 2027 Summit.
The 2025 investment promotion list includes 40 projects with total capital of over VND226.7 trillion, which are aimed at driving breakthroughs in the province’s socio-economic development.
Among them are 12 projects to be implemented through domestic direct investment, public-private partnerships, and under the Investment Law, with the goal of supporting the organization of the APEC 2027 Summit on Phu Quoc Island.
One of the key projects is the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport, covering 1,050 hectares with an investment of VND22 trillion, designed to handle up to 18 million passengers per year.
The 28-hectare APEC Conference Center project will cost an estimated VND21.86 trillion and feature a 3,500-seat convention hall, a 3,000-seat media center, a plaza, a museum, a cultural center, and exhibition spaces.
Other planned projects include waste and wastewater treatment facilities, a waste-to-energy plant, a water plant, and mixed-use urban areas.
Kien Giang is calling for investment in eight marine farming projects to tap into the province’s water surface potential, promote sustainable development, and protect the environment.
Notable projects include a pearl oyster farming and eco-tourism venture in Ganh Dau (Phu Quoc), covering 1,000 hectares with an investment of VND320 billion and an expected output of one million pearls per year.
Other projects involve high-tech fish and seaweed farming in Tien Hai (Ha Tien) and Nam Du (Kien Hai), with respective investments of VND140 billion and VND380 billion.
Authorities are also seeking investment for 13 projects in the industrial cluster and processing sectors. These include the development of infrastructure for the Ha Giang industrial cluster (Ha Tien), a rice processing plant in Kien Binh (Kien Luong), and a seafood processing facility in Hoa Dien.
Under the new resolution on administrative reorganization at the provincial level, Kien Giang will be merged into An Giang and retain the name An Giang.
At the same time, a new special administrative zone named Phu Quoc will be established, formed from two wards and six communes of the current Phu Quoc City, with its administrative center located at the existing Phu Quoc City People’s Committee office.
Phu Quoc will play host to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in 2027, which is highly expected to give a fresh boost to local investment, infrastructure, tourism, and real estate development.
