HCMC – Pham Thai Ha, former deputy head of the National Assembly (NA) Office and ex-assistant to former NA chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, will stand trial on September 8 for his alleged involvement in the Thuan An Group bribery case.
The case will be presided over by Judge Vu Quang Huy, deputy chief of the Hanoi People’s Court’s Criminal Division, and is expected to last several days, starting from September 8.
In the case, Ha has been indicted for abusing his position and power to influence others for personal gain. Also charged in the case is Le O Pich, former vice chairman of the former Bac Giang People’s Committee, accused of abusing his position and power while performing official duties.
Among the 27 others indicted for violating bidding regulations with serious consequences are Nguyen Duy Hung, former chairman of Thuan An Group; Tran Quang Anh, former general director of Thuan An; Nguyen Khac Man, former deputy general director of Thuan An; Nguyen Van Thao, former head of the former Bac Giang project management unit; Tran Viet Cuong, former head of the former Tuyen Quang project management unit; along with several defendants.
Ha allegedly helped Thuan An secure involvement in a Bac Giang project through personal connections.
Ha’s influence allegedly “created favorable conditions for Thuan An to win the bid,” which prosecutors say indirectly led to collusion between individuals at the Bac Giang project management unit, the design consultant, and Thuan An to secure Package No. 7.
Prosecutors said Hung gave Ha VND500 million in cash at his home after Thuan An secured the contract, and later offered an additional VND250 million on holidays and during Tet.
