HCMC – The Japanese Film Festival will be held online from November 15, introducing Japanese films of diverse genres to the audience in Vietnam.
This year’s online Japanese Film Festival promises diversity in film content and genres and flexibility in the screening time and an unlimited number of spectators, in line with the criterion of “Japanese Movies Anytime, Anywhere” that the event has been aiming for.
Organized by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, the film festival will take place in two phases, offering free screenings for all films via the streaming site of the event.
The first phase runs from November 15 to 21, presenting five outstanding films previously introduced at the Japanese Film Festival Online 2020 and the Japan Hour 2020. They comprise Dance with Me; Gon, the Little Fox; Little Nights, Little Love; The Great Passage; and Tora-san in Goto.
The second phase is scheduled for February 14-27, 2022, featuring 20 films such as The Flavor Of Green Tea Over Rice, Tokyo Marble Chocolate, and Documentary.
This is the second time that the film festival is being held online due to the complicated development of Covid-19 around the world.
“Hopefully, the movies will soothe our souls and boost our spirits after a long period of stress over the Covid-19 pandemic,” the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange said in a statement.
The Japanese Film Festival is a project held by the Japan Foundation to promote Japanese films worldwide. With the slogan, “Japanese Film Anytime, Anywhere”, the program was launched in 2016 for 10 ASEAN countries and Australia.
Last year’s first ever Japanese Film Festival Online spanned five continents and 20 countries, including Vietnam. A total of 30 Japanese films, from new releases to classics, were broadcast for free, with over 210,000 views around the world. At a time when movie theaters in many areas were closed due to the pandemic, the festival was able to share Japanese cinema with the world on a scale never achieved before.
For its second year, the festival will expand to 25 countries and present a variety of genres, from comedy to musical, drama, romance, animation, and documentary.
