HCMC – A new tropical depression has developed east of the Philippines shortly after Super Typhoon Ragasa entered the East Sea.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported this morning that a tropical depression had developed east of the Philippines.
The system is forecast to move westward, making landfall in central Philippines before entering the East Sea. It could strengthen into a storm between September 26 and 29, becoming the 10th storm to form in the region this year.
Le Thi Xuan Lan, a meteorological expert, warned that the tropical depression is likely to intensify rapidly into a storm as it traverses the Philippines and then move into the East Sea.
Lan noted that the system may directly impact Vietnam’s mainland, with the potential to become a powerful storm, though its intensity is expected to fall short of that of Super Typhoon Ragasa.
At 9 a.m. today, September 23, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that the eye of Ragasa was located some 790 kilometers east of China’s Leizhou Peninsula.
The storm is expected to keep moving west-northwest at a speed of around 20 kilometers per hour over the next hours.
