HCMC – An international exhibition on machine tools and metalworking solutions opened on October 1 in HCMC, marking the 18th edition of METALEX Vietnam at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC).

The three-day event, running through October 3, brings together CNC machines, robotics, automation systems, digital factory solutions, and production management software. Organizers said the exhibition aims to help Vietnamese manufacturers upgrade technology, strengthen supply chain links, and expand their role in global markets.

The program features trade promotion activities, including Buyer Zone, which connects suppliers with international buyers, and Business Matching, linking domestic and foreign companies. A supply chain program, coordinated by HCMC’s Department of Industry and Trade along with JETRO and other associations, is also being held to strengthen industry cooperation.

Vietnam’s manufacturing sector has continued to grow this year. The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that the index of industrial production rose 8.5% in the first eight months of 2025, while manufacturing and processing expanded more than 10% year-on-year. Output of fabricated metal products increased 12%, and repair and installation of machinery rose 15.2%.

Imports of machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts reached nearly US$38.9 billion in January-August, up 23.6% from a year earlier. Steel imports increased 24% to US$5.2 billion, while other metal products jumped 46.2% to US$3 billion.

Organizers said the figures reflect rising demand for advanced equipment as local firms seek to improve productivity and competitiveness.
