Health Ministry reports over 8,600 new Covid-19 infections

HCMC – Vietnam’s Covid tally rose by 8,616 cases this evening, November 15, with the number of locally-infected cases increasing by 440 cases day-on-day to 8,603 cases, while the remaining 13 cases were imported, the Ministry of Health reported.

HCMC saw an increase of 180 cases against yesterday, with 1,165 new infections detected. The Mekong Delta province of An Giang came second with 660 cases, followed by Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, and Tien Giang with around 500-600 cases each. The rest were found in 51 other provinces and cities nationwide

Besides this, 1,205 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospital the same day after recovering from the disease, raising the country’s total recoveries to over 864,500 cases.

Meanwhile, 101 patients died of the virus in the day, with 45 in HCMC, 10 in An Giang, nine in Binh Duong. The latest fatalities sent the country’s Covid death toll to 23,183 cases up to now.

In related news, all of the 10 wards in Hanoi’s Nam Tu Liem District have allowed direct contacts of the confirmed coronavirus patients to self-quarantine at home. In the upcoming time, the capital city will set up pop-up healthcare stations to monitor and take care of asymptomatic Covid patients, instead of taking them to hospitals for treatment.

The northern province of Ha Nam will launch its vaccination drive for children aged 12-17 starting tomorrow, November 16. Tran Xuan Duong, vice chairman of the provincial government, said children who go to school will get vaccinated at schools or vaccination sites picked by education facilities, provided the sites ensure vaccination and Covid safety. For children who do not go to school, they will be inoculated at local fixed or mobile stations selected by the local authorities.

Children with obesity, underlying medical problems will be vaccinated at the Ha Nam Provincial General Hospital, district-level medical centers, and the general hospitals of Nam Ly and Hanoi-Dong Van. Regarding children currently under medical treatment at local hospitals, the local health units have to make a list of those aged 12-17 to receive vaccination in line with the Health Ministry’s regulations.

In the fourth coronavirus wave, Ha Nam has reported more than 1,100 Covid infections since September 19.
