Domestic gold prices rebound

HCMC – Domestic gold prices today (October 6) surged by VND1 million to a new high of VND139.6 million per tael, while global gold prices is still nearly VND15 million lower than local market levels.

As of 9:30 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and Doji quoted their gold prices at VND137.6 million for buying and VND139.6 million for selling, while Phu Quy Company listed them at VND136.5 million and VND139.1 million, respectively. All three dealers raised their prices by VND1 million per tael compared to the latest adjustment on October 3.

Gold ring prices also increased this morning by VND700,000 to VND1 million per tael. At Phu Quy, gold rings rose by VND1 million to VND133.5 million for buying and VND136.5 million for selling. At Bao Tin Minh Chau, prices were adjusted up by VND700,000 to VND134.3 million and VND137.3 million, respectively.

The buy-sell gap stayed wide, with SJC-branded gold bars at VND2-2.6 million per tael and gold rings at VND3 million.

On the global market, gold was traded at around US$3,923 per ounce, equivalent to roughly VND124.8 million per tael based on Vietcombank’s exchange rate. This was nearly VND15 million lower than domestic gold prices.

The State Bank of Vietnam this morning set the central exchange rate at VND25,146 per U.S. dollar, down VND16 from the previous session’s close. Commercial banks also revised down their rates, with some quoting the selling price at VND26,403 per dollar, down VND17 from yesterday.

Within the 5% trading band, Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,153-26,403 per dollar (buy-sell). VietinBank quoted the rate at VND26,185-26,403, BIDV at VND26,203-26,403, and Eximbank at VND26,170-26,403.
