HCMC – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and his spouse, Ngo Phuong Ly, departed Hanoi today, October 20, for an official visit to Finland at the invitation of Finnish President Alexander Stubb. The visit will take place from October 20 to 22.
This marks the first visit by a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to Finland since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973.
Lam is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Politburo members Nguyen Duy Ngoc, head of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission; Phan Van Giang, minister of National Defense; and Luong Tam Quang, minister of Public Security.
Other officials include Le Hoai Trung, acting minister of Foreign Affairs; Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Industry and Trade; Nguyen Manh Hung, minister of Science and Technology; and Nguyen Thanh Nghi, head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission, and other leaders from key ministries and Party agencies.
The visit continues Vietnam’s active engagement in high-level diplomacy this year and demonstrates the country’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization of international relations.
It is also seen as part of efforts to advance the implementation of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new context.
