HCMC — Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam on December 1 called for deeper strategic cohesion between Vietnam and Laos, saying the two countries should strengthen cooperation to respond to global changes.

Speaking at the Lao National Academy of Politics and Public Administration during his state visit, Lam said Vietnam and Laos share historical experiences, geographical proximity and common development goals. He noted that both countries relied on each other during past conflicts and that their partnership remains central to their political and security strategies, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

Lam said traditional cooperation is no longer sufficient and called for stronger cohesion at the bilateral, sub-regional and regional levels. He highlighted the need for both sides to maintain independence linked with socialist-oriented development, develop peaceful and cooperative border areas, and improve complementarities in resources and economic space.

He urged closer cooperation between Laos’ political training institutions and Vietnamese counterparts in public administration, governance and human resource development. Lam encouraged joint research, expanded student and lecturer exchanges, and collaboration on administrative reform, digital transformation and sustainable development.

The Party chief said Vietnam and Laos should continue coordinating positions within ASEAN and other international forums to protect their interests and support regional stability.

Lam described the Vietnam–Laos relationship as an important factor for regional security and said both sides should translate their cooperation into practical initiatives suited for the digital era.

He said the long-standing relationship is a shared asset that requires continued preservation and development.
