HCMC – The VN-Index rose 10 points, or 0.55%, to 1,824.09 on the last pre-Tet trading day, with gainers outnumbering decliners on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HOSE).
HOSE saw 193 stocks advancing and 118 others declining. Trading volume reached more than 608.5 million shares worth VND20.06 trillion, up 22% in volume and 24% in value from the previous session. Block deals accounted for 37.3 million shares valued at VND1.24 trillion.
For the final trading week before the Vietnamese celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet), the index gained 68.6 points, or 3.9%, after three rising sessions and two declines. The increase ended the three-week losing streak.
Within the VN30 basket, most large-cap stocks edged higher toward the close. TPB, STB and GVR rose more than 2%. VIC, SHB, VJC, DGC, HDB and CTG added around 1%.
FPT fell 2.5% to VND96,300. MWG, MBB, HPG, VRE, SAB and BID posted slight losses.
Among mid- and small-cap stocks, GEE and GEX hit their daily upper limits, closing at VND176,500 and VND37,600, with matched volumes of 0.96 million and 15.8 million shares, respectively. EIB rose 3.4% to VND23,100, VGC gained 4% to VND50,300, VIX advanced 3% to VND22,550, and GEL increased 4.2% to VND35,950.
In the financial group, VPX climbed 5.6% to VND29,950, EVF rose 5.2% to VND12,100, and TCX added 3.9% to VND58,200.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index closed up 0.58 point, or 0.23%, at 257.06, with 85 winners and 53 losers. Matched volume totaled 52.7 million shares worth VND1.03 trillion.
