HCMC – Authorities of Phu Quoc Special Zone off the Mekong Delta province of An Giang today, February 27, broke ground on three projects in the areas of the environment, water supply and energy on Phu Quoc Island, which will serve the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in 2027 (APEC 2027).
With a combined cost of VND1.24 trillion, the projects – the Cua Can Lake water treatment plant, the Bai Bon waste treatment complex and the Bai Bon waste-to-energy facility – will be completed before June 30, 2027.
The 15-hectare Bai Bon waste treatment complex in Ham Ninh can treat 250 tons per day and will need a total investment of VND382 billion. The VND300-billion Bai Bon waste-to-energy plant, also in Ham Ninh, covers 10 hectares and has a treatment capacity of 200–300 tons per day and power generation capacity of 4MW. The Cua Can Lake water treatment plant can treat 49,500 cubic meters per day and its investment cost is around VND556 billion.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, An Giang Vice Chairman Le Trung Ho said the projects are aimed at ensuring essential infrastructure for APEC 2027 and laying a foundation for the long-term development of Phu Quoc Island and An Giang Province.
