CAN THO – A Malaysian company has proposed investing in a 10-megawatt rice-husk-fired power plant in Can Tho City, according to the city’s Department of Finance.
The department confirmed it has received a proposal from Technofit SDN BHD, part of Malaysia’s Technofit Group, for approval for the Hau Giang rice-husk power plant project.
The proposed plant would have a designed capacity of 10MW and be located in Area 4 of Long My and Long Phu 1 wards in Can Tho.
The project aims to generate electricity and provide power transmission and distribution services. It would also include installation, repair and maintenance services for machinery and electrical equipment, along with technical analysis, testing and management consulting services.
In December last year, representatives of Technofit met with Can Tho authorities to discuss the investment proposal. At the meeting, the company expressed interest in being prioritized to develop the rice-husk power plant project using biomass combustion technology.
According to local estimates, after administrative consolidation, Can Tho produces around 4.7–4.8 million tons of rice each year. This generates more than two million tons of rice husks annually, which could supply fuel for the proposed plant.
Technofit Group was established in 1998 and specializes in civil engineering, mechanical and electrical works. Its activities include construction, installation, renovation and maintenance services for power and oil and gas plants.
Projects carried out by Technofit have generated more than 7,950MW of electricity, according to information provided by the company.
