HCMC – Domestic gold prices were unchanged on the morning of March 26, with SJC-branded gold bars holding steady from the close on March 25, while the U.S. dollar at commercial banks edged down by VND2 against the Vietnamese dong.
At 9:15 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), DOJI and Phu Quy quoted SJC-branded gold bars at VND170.5 million per tael for buying and VND173.5 million per tael for selling, unchanged from the previous session.
Gold ring prices at major traders also remained steady. Phu Quy listed gold rings at VND170.5 million per tael for buying and VND173.5 million per tael for selling, flat from March 25. The spread between buying and selling prices stayed at around VND3 million per tael.
Globally, gold traded at around US$4,532 per ounce, declining from a recent peak of US$4,602 per ounce. At this level, the global gold price was equivalent to about VND143.9 million per tael, around VND29.6 million lower than domestic SJC-branded gold prices.
At the same time, domestic silver prices declined on the morning of March 26 compared to the close on March 25. Ancarat quoted silver at VND2.69 million per tael for buying and VND2.78 million per tael for selling, down VND60,000 per tael on both sides from the previous session. The buying–selling spread stood at VND90,000 per tael.
Silver bars at Ancarat were listed at VND71.94 million per kilogram for buying and VND74.18 million per kilogram for selling, down VND1.55 million and VND1.58 million, respectively, from March 25.
Phu Quy quoted silver at VND2.7 million per tael for buying and VND2.78 million per tael for selling, down VND60,000 per tael on both sides from the previous session. Silver bars were listed at VND71.99 million per kilogram for buying and VND74.23 million per kilogram for selling, down VND1.63 million and VND1.66 million, respectively, from March 25.
Globally, silver traded at around US$71.94 per ounce, down US$1.59 from the previous session.
On the same morning, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) set the central foreign exchange rate at VND25,102 per U.S. dollar, down VND2 from March 25.
At commercial banks, the U.S. dollar slipped. Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,107 for buying and VND26,357 for selling, down VND2 from the previous close. VietinBank listed the dollar at VND26,149-26,357 (buy/sell), while BIDV quoted VND26,137-26,357 and Eximbank VND26,140-26,357, all down VND2 from March 25.
