- Tran Thanh Man takes oath as chairman of 16th National Assembly
- Vietnam’s key state leadership positions to be elected next week
HCMC – Do Van Chien, Nguyen Khac Dinh, Nguyen Thi Thanh, Nguyen Thi Hong, Nguyen Doan Anh, and Nguyen Hong Dien have been elected as vice chairpersons of the National Assembly (NA).
At its afternoon session on April 6, the legislature reviewed two draft resolutions on the elections of vice chairpersons of the NA and members of the NA’s Standing Committee. It then discussed and approved the resolutions using an electronic voting system.
For the resolution on electing vice chairpersons of the 16th National Assembly, all 496 attending deputies voted in favor, representing 100% of those present and 99.20% of the total membership.
The resolution on the election of the 16th NA Standing Committee members secured support from all 487 deputies present.
Several additional personnel-related resolutions were also passed.
The resolution on the election of the chairperson of the NA Council for Ethnic Affairs and the heads of NA committees received all 493 votes in favor. Those elected include Lam Van Man as chairman of the NA Council for Ethnic Affairs, Phan Chi Hieu as chairman of the NA Committee for Legal and Judicial Affairs, and Phan Van Mai as chairman of the Committee for Economic and Financial Affairs, among others.
The resolution on the election of NA secretary general and chairperson of the NA Office was approved with 481 votes in favor from all deputies present, with Le Quang Manh elected to the post.
Meanwhile, the resolution on the election of the Auditor General of the State Audit Office of Vietnam for the 2026–2031 term received all 485 votes in favor, with Nguyen Huu Nghia elected.
On April 7, the NA will meet in a closed session to hear a report from the Standing Committee on the approval of personnel, including vice chairpersons of the Council for Ethnic Affairs, vice chairpersons of the National Assembly’s committees, and full time members serving on these bodies.
After that, the NA will proceed with procedures to elect the State President. It will then meet in plenary session to pass a resolution on the election, after which the President will take the oath of office and deliver an inaugural address.
