HCMC – Four final sections of the North-South Expressway in the central coastal region, spanning 268 kilometers from Quang Ngai to Khanh Hoa provinces, are undergoing final adjustments following their technical opening in late 2025.
Combined with the eight sections already in service, the entire 12-section project on the expressway’s eastern wing is slated to be fully operational by the Reunification Day holiday on April 30. These 12 sections, stretching from the central province of Ha Tinh to the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, cover a total length of approximately 730 kilometers.
Details of this timeline were disclosed at a Ministry of Construction press briefing on April 9. Authorities noted that the completion of these final four sections had encountered several hurdles, including initial delays in site clearance and material mining permits.
Furthermore, construction progress in the central region has been hampered by severe natural disasters and global geopolitical tensions, which has driven up the costs of fuels and construction materials. Additionally, technical challenges related to soft soil foundations required extended processing times to ensure the project’s long-term quality.
The section from Quang Ngai Province to the Cu Mong Tunnel in Daklak Province is expected to enter into service by mid-April, with the remaining portions (from Daklak Province to Khanh Hoa Province) to follow shortly after.
Parallel to the roadwork, the service infrastructure is also being expanded, with 17 out of 21 planned rest stops set to be operational by the holiday. This network, averaging one facility every 100 kilometers along the Hanoi-Ca Mau corridor, aims to ensure safety and convenience as the nation’s primary transport artery enters full-scale operation.
