Gold, dollar edge up

HCMC – Domestic gold prices rose on the morning of May 1, with SJC-branded gold bars increasing by VND300,000 per tael from the previous day, while the U.S. dollar at commercial banks edged up slightly compared with the start of April.

At around the morning session, Mi Hong quoted SJC-branded gold bars at VND164.8 million per tael for buying and VND166.3 million per tael for selling, up VND300,000 from the previous session. Gold rings at the same firm were listed at VND164.8 million for buying and VND166.3 million for selling, also rising VND300,000. However, compared with the earlier selling level of VND166.5 million per tael, the current price was down VND200,000.

Several other gold traders remained closed for the April 30–May 1 holiday.

Globally, gold traded at around US$4,622 per ounce, up US$53 from the same time in the previous session.

At the end of April, the State Bank of Vietnam’s central exchange rate data was not specified.

At commercial banks, the U.S. dollar inched up slightly during April. Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,108–26,138 for buying and VND26,368 for selling, up VND2–6 compared with the beginning of the month. ACB listed the dollar at VND26,130–26,160 for buying and VND26,368 for selling, also rising marginally over the same period.
