HCMC – Can Tho City aims to add around 300 new businesses each year through 2030 as the city seeks to expand its private sector and raise its contribution to 78-80% of gross regional domestic product (GRDP).
Vuong Quoc Nam, vice chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, said the city is implementing a range of measures to strengthen the private sector as a key growth driver during the 2026-2030 period.
Under the plan, the private sector is expected to grow by an average of 10% annually. Can Tho also targets having more than 40% of businesses engaged in innovation activities by 2030, while the digital economy is projected to account for at least 30% of GRDP.
To support those goals, the city will improve the investment and business environment through administrative reforms and enhanced public services for enterprises. Authorities will review and simplify business procedures, shorten processing times, and expand online public services.
Can Tho also plans to help businesses gain greater access to land, credit, and human resources. It will promote digital transformation, green transition, and the application of science and technology in production and business operations.
The city is encouraging companies to participate more deeply in domestic and global value chains, particularly in sectors such as high-tech agriculture, agricultural processing, logistics, and services.
Local authorities intend to increase dialogue with businesses and address obstacles facing enterprises in a timely manner, reflecting a shift from management toward a service-oriented approach.
Can Tho expects a stronger private sector to support annual GRDP growth of 10-10.5%, boost budget revenue, and create more jobs, reinforcing its ambition to become a growth center for the Mekong Delta.
The city currently has around 25,000 operating businesses. Over the past year, nearly 5,000 new enterprises were registered with total capital exceeding VND30 trillion.
By 2030, Can Tho aims to nearly double the number of businesses operating in the city from current levels.
