HCMC – Vietnam reported 16,141 new Covid-19 cases this evening, December 11, with 37 of them being imported cases and the remaining 16,104 being local infections, up over 1,200 domestic cases against yesterday, said the Ministry of Health.
Among the new infections found in 59 provinces and cities nationwide, HCMC continued to report the biggest number at 1,441 cases, followed by Binh Phuoc with 1,164 cases and Tay Ninh with 903 cases. Besides, Khanh Hoa, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Can Tho, and Soc Trang reported around 600-800 cases each.
Besides, 1,084 more Covid patients were declared free of the disease the same day, sending the country’s total recoveries to 1,053,425 cases.
Meanwhile, the country in the day reported 209 additional Covid deaths. HCMC saw 67 fatalities, with seven cases being transferred from other provinces. The neighboring province of Dong Nai recorded 17 fatalities. An Giang, Binh Duong, and Can Tho each reported 13 deaths.
As for the booster shot rollouts in the country, the Dong Nai Province Health Department yesterday said over 90,000 people in priority groups in the southern province had received their third shots.
Aside from healthcare workers, police and military forces, and reporters, Dong Nai also administered the booster shots to people aged 50 and above who had got two doses but suffered from moderate and serious immunodeficiency diseases. After launching the booster shot drive, the province had yet to report any case experiencing severe post-vaccination reactions, said Nguyen Huu Tai, deputy director of the provincial health authority.
In the upcoming period, when vaccine supplies become abundant, Dong Nai will give the booster shots to all residents aged 18 and older across the province, Tai added.
Up to now, Dong Nai has administered about five million doses to the over 12s, with nearly 90% of them having got two doses.
In the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long, the provincial Center for Disease Control yesterday began administering the booster dose to the anti-Covid frontline forces. The province seeks to give the third shot to 95% of its population aged 18 and older, equivalent to over 782,000 people, from the end of this year to the start of 2022.
According to the Vinh Long Province health authority, the coverage of the first and the second Covid vaccine dose for the over 18s in the province reached 99.4% and 93.7%, respectively. In the group of children aged 12-17, the first-dose vaccination rate was 99% and the second-dose rate hit 93.1%.
In An Giang, another province in the delta, the provincial health authority yesterday issued a plan on giving the booster shot, which will take place from this month till next year, said Tran Quang Hien, director of the An Giang Health Department.
An Giang will give the booster shot to around 400,000 fully-vaccinated people aged 18 and older, with priority given to people aged 50 and above with immunodeficiency.
