HCMC – A coach traveling on National Highway 1 in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang crashed into a concrete road divider and overturned before being hit by a truck, killing one person and injuring 19 others today, October 7.
The police of Tien Giang Province’s Cai be District told Thanh Nien Online that they had launched an investigation into the fatal accident.
At 0.15 a.m., the 48-seater coach with plate number 94B-001.98 driven by Huynh Van Lon, 39, who lives in Bac Lieu Province, was transporting 23 passengers and a driving assistant along a National Highway 1 section in Cai Be District when it hit the road divider.
The truck with plate number 65C-156.54, coming from the opposite direction, hit the coach as soon as the latter overturned and blocked the road.
After being notified of the accident, police officers and locals quickly helped get the victims out of the coach.
Passenger Nguyen Thi Loan, a 53-year-old woman, who resides in Bac Lieu Province, died at the scene, while 19 others were immediately taken to several hospitals in Tien Giang Province and HCMC due to their injuries.
