HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has asked the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to map out a detailed plan and mobilize capital to start work on the T2 passenger terminal at the Dong Hoi airport in the central province of Quang Binh this year.
If ACV, the investor of the terminal T2 project, fails to mobilize enough capital for the project, it would have to quickly report the situation to the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises and the Transport Ministry so the ministry can adopt suitable solutions to mobilize investment capital.
Earlier on January 12, the Government Office issued an announcement on the prime minister’s conclusion at a working session with the Quang Binh government. Accordingly, the prime minister assigned the ministry to conduct research and impact reports to develop the Dong Hoi airport into an international one.
The development is aimed at boosting the province’s socio-economic growth and promoting its potential for the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park World Natural Heritage.
As such, the prime minister urged the relevant agencies to construct the T2 passenger terminal this year, the local media reported.
The development of the T2 passenger terminal is expected to raise the capacity of the Dong Hoi airport to three million passengers each year. The project will require VND1.222 trillion in investment funded by ACV.
In August 2021, the commission sent a dispatch to the Quang Binh government announcing that due to the impact of the Covid pandemic on ACV’s business operations, ACV would prioritize key projects. However, after balancing capital sources for the key projects, ACV will pour the rest into the Terminal T2 project at the Dong Hoi airport.
