New Covid caseload falls slightly, at 160,676

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, March 10, confirmed 160,676 fresh Covid cases, with 15 of them imported and 160,661 locally infected cases, down 3,915 cases over yesterday.

The new domestic infections were detected in 62 localities, with Hanoi recording the largest number, at 30,157. It was followed by Nghe An with 11,141, Phu Tho with 5,891 and Binh Duong with 5,302.

Son La, Hung Yen, Hoa Binh, Ca Mau and Tuyen Quang were among the 12 localities reporting more than 3,000 cases each.

Meanwhile, the Health Departments of Thanh Hoa, Vinh Phuc and Binh Dinh registered to add 30,000, 21,182 and 6,601 cases, respectively, to the national Covid monitoring system. That is to say the country reported 218,459 cases today alone.

Thus, Vietnam has had more than 5.26 million Covid cases, including over 2.9 million recoveries and 41,157 fatalities.

Today alone, 53,151 Covid patients were announced to have fully recovered from the disease, while 71 Covid-19 deaths were confirmed.

In related news, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked the Ministry of Health to report the procurement of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for children aged between five and 11 today, March 10.

The ministry must also review and impose sanctions on individuals and organizations responsible for the late purchase of the vaccine.

In early February, the Government approved the procurement of 21.9 million doses of the Pfizer Covid vaccine for children aged between five and 11. The Government also agreed to choose contractors for the vaccine purchase as required by the Law on Bidding.

The Ministry of Health was assigned to purchase and administer the Pfizer vaccine to children aged between five and 11.

At a recent press briefing, Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen said Vietnam would receive seven million Pfizer doses this month and 15 million doses in the last quarter of the year.
