HCMC – Airfares on domestic routes in Vietnam have climbed ahead of the April 30 and May 1 public holiday as strong travel demand pushed many flights close to full capacity, according to the aviation authority.
Passenger load factors on several tourism routes have reached 80% to 100%, according to a survey by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
Economy class seats have sold out on many flights from HCMC to destinations including Phu Quoc, Tuy Hoa, Con Dao and Pleiku, while routes from Hanoi to Tuy Hoa, Nha Trang, Danang and Dong Hoi have also seen heavy bookings.
Many departures during peak travel hours are already fully booked, leaving only higher-priced fare classes available.
In contrast, demand for return flights to Hanoi and HCMC is expected to rise toward the end of the holiday. Although travel demand is more spread out this year as two holiday periods fall close together, passenger traffic is still expected to peak on May 2 and May 3.
Most flights returning to these two major cities have booking rates above 80%, with many already fully booked.
The CAAV said airfares, including taxes and fees, in the first days of the holiday period rose 5% to 8% from a week earlier, depending on the route.
Specifically, fares on the HCMC-Danang route for April 29 range from VND2.9 million to VND3.5 million on Vietnam Airlines, while Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways are offering tickets priced between VND2.1 million and VND2.9 million.
On the Hanoi-Danang route, fares range from VND2.9 million to VND4 million on Vietnam Airlines and from VND2.4 million to VND3.2 million on other carriers.
Flights to Phu Quoc and Nha Trang continue to post the highest fares. Tickets from Hanoi to Phu Quoc are priced at VND5 million to VND5.5 million on Vietnam Airlines, while Vietjet Air fares range from VND3.5 million to VND5 million. On the HCMC-Phu Quoc route, fares are typically between VND2 million and VND3.2 million.
On the Hanoi-HCMC route, fares commonly range from VND3.8 million to VND4.5 million, marking a notable increase from the same period in 2025.
