HCMC – Sun Group has got approval to invest in the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport in preparation for the 2027 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
On June 19, the local government of Kien Giang approved a series of investment projects, including the selection of Sun Group as the investor for the expansion of Phu Quoc airport.
The project has total investment capital of nearly VND22 trillion and will be implemented in two phases: 2025-2027 and 2027-2030. It will be carried out as a direct business investment under Resolution No. 01/2025/NQ-CP issued on June 1, 2025.
Under the master plan for Phu Quoc airport for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, approved by the Minister of Construction in April 2025, the airport is expected to handle around 10 million passengers annually by 2030, and about 18 million passengers per year by 2050.
The Phu Quoc airport expansion project will cover a total area of 1,050 hectares. It includes extending the existing runway from 3,000 meters to 3,500 meters and building a second runway measuring 3,300 meters in length, enabling the airport to accommodate wide-body aircraft.
