Vegetables, salt and health

Most people tend to consume more salt but less vegetables and fruits. Data from the World Health Organization STEPwise approach to noncommunicable disease risk factor surveillance (STEPS) conducted by the Ministry of Health in 2021 showed that about 59% of the population do not consume enough 400 grams of vegetables and fruits daily as recommended. Meanwhile, up to 78.2% of them constantly use salt, fish sauce or salty spices in their meals; and 8.7% always or frequently eat fast food containing high sodium content. On average, a Vietnamese adult consumes 8.1g of salt per day.
