HCMC – Bamboo Airways has received the green signal from the U.S. Department of Transportation to operate direct flights between Vietnam and the United States, a move expected to open a wide opportunity for cooperation between the airline and many prestigious U.S. partners.
Accordingly, the carrier is allowed to use wide-body Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft for its flights from Vietnam’s major airports such as the Hanoi-based Noi Bai and HCMC-based Tan Son Nhat international airports to all of the United States’ international airports.
Bamboo Airways is considering launching its maiden flights to some large airports in Los Angeles and San Francisco, VietnamPlus news site reported.
Nguyen Ngoc Trong, deputy general director of Bamboo Airways, said that after receiving the license from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the carrier would continue to complete some procedures and apply for licenses from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the Transportation Security Administration and other relevant U.S. agencies.
To ensure its flights to the U.S. are ready and effective, Bamboo Airways is preparing for all aspects, including equipment, manpower, training courses and flight fleets, apart from meeting all legal and security requirements.
Depending on the post-Covid-19 recovery of the aviation market in the United States and some market conditions, Bamboo Airways will launch its direct service to the U.S. as soon as possible, maybe in late 2020 and early 2021, Trong said.
Speaking about Bamboo Airways’ plan, the leader of the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority said the launch of a direct air route between Vietnam and the United States will not only bring commercial benefits, but also reflect the airline’s competence, contributing to strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.
