HCMC – Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province will call for investments in the Go Gang airport project, which will cover some 248.5 hectares and require an estimated cost of over VND9 trillion.
The province will also seek investments for the Go Gang urban area project, Tien Phong newspaper reported.
On March 10, provincial vice chairman Le Ngoc Khanh said the provincial government had assigned the Department of Construction to coordinate with the Department of Transport and the management board of traffic projects in the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port area to study the Ministry of National Defense’s suggestions and prevailing regulations to propose procedures to the provincial government to conduct the Go Gang airport project.
These agencies must report their results to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau government before March 15 so that the latter can submit the project to the provincial government’s Party Civil Affairs Committee and the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board.
According to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau government, the Go Gang airport project, once in place, will meet the air transport demand, thus ensuring socioeconomic development and national defense.
The total area of the airport project will include 91.25 hectares managed by the Vietnam Helicopter Corporation, 75 hectares of the shared airfield, 20 hectares of the shared aviation area and 62.25 hectares of the aviation development services.
Of the total investment, nearly VND1.3 trillion will be used for site clearance.
Ba Ria-Vung Tau Chairman Nguyen Van Tho asked the Department of Transport to coordinate with the relevant departments and agencies to review the general planning of the Go Gang Island and work with the Departments of Natural Resources-Environment and Agriculture-Rural Development and the provincial forest management board to review land-related issues at the project site.
Earlier, the provincial government approved the location of the project in Long Son Commune, Vung Tau City. The management board of traffic projects in the Cai Mep-Thi Vai port area was assigned as the investor of the airport project. It has been developing the prefeasibility report and conducting the 1/2000-scale planning for the project.
Thus, Ba Ria-Vung Tau is expected to have three airports in the near future. Besides Go Gang, the Con Dao and Dat Do airport projects will require investments of some VND2.3 trillion and VND4.25 trillion, respectively.
